The birth of Little Tree

Little Tree poster - before
Back during the summer, Joe, a neighbor three doors down (we had just met him) started a house concert series called “Little Tree Acoustic.” We went to the first show. As we sat outside in the cool Colorado air, Joe tells the story of how Little Tree came to be. After listening to the music float around us and talking to the good people in the crowd, it struck me that I wanted to be a part of all this specialness. At “intermission” I offered my drawin’ services to Joe. I saw that he had a first poster made already so wasn’t really sure if he’d be interested. He ended up giving me the go ahead (to see what I could come up with) so I snapped a picture of the initial poster to remember as I brainstormed and sketched.
I really intended on taking the general idea of the poster (nurturing hands, helping the tree grow) and simply move it into my style. As I sketched, I realized that something wasn’t clicking. It didn’t hit me in the soul. I wanted it to BE the evening that I remembered. So I changed direction and just let the memories of how I felt ooze on out. Enjoy the sketch evolution from start to finish then check out the final piece.
