Gingham Goose

This all started with a pair of ponies that wore knitted sweaters. It reminded me of Jess, the original Cardigan Kitty (which I’ve also made a felty of) so I thought it would be fun to make other sweatered and/or patterned animals.

India

This one was sent up to Alaska especially for my niece India!

Birdie Rescue

A friend posted a photo of her young son that had caught a bird in their yard. It was probably the cutest kid photo I’ve ever seen in my life and I was instantly inspired to draw it. Since we’ve had some warmer days up here in Colorado I wanted to get it finished. It is now my official Spring poster child (pun intended.) I admit that I did make some color changes along the way. I don’t think there are any of these birds free flying around Tennessee where they live, but I wanted the bird to go with the beautiful big blue eyes. Everything else just needed to be bright and “springy.”

Lovebirds

I’m excited to share this wedding gift for my sweet niece! The main goal was to create something as bright and beautiful as she is, and the bright future ahead of them. The two birds are in their wedding attire sharing a sweet kiss on their wedding day. The quote “Come live in my heart and pay no rent” is by Samuel Lover. It spoke to me as the perfectly sweet sidekick to a perfectly sweet pair. The wedding was beautiful and I wish them eons of happiness!

SOLD

Spring Beauty

The best way to bring in spring is to wear it! A coworker’s wife wore sunflowers in her hair at our company holiday party. I knew right then that she was a work of art. A modern day Cinderella, surrounded by flowers with birds singing the song of spring.

The Giving Tree

My 2010 donation to the AIGA Heart Art auction. When I got the notice that it was time to register my piece, I didn’t have a name for it. As I was filling out the application and got to the line “Title of piece” it just filled itself in. I love when that happens! Then I had to figure out what a giving tree actually looked like. I started with sketches of hearts falling from trees and hearts in trees and hearts floating out of trees but it just wasn’t working. My giving tree had to be something special. My giving tree was going to give out love-filled balloons. So there you have it.

SOLD

Vail fun

This was a gift for a family building a home in Vail. A snapshot of the three kids, their interests and the views in beautiful Vail. The robin was thought to be grandma’s spirit, who seemed to always hang around the family.

SOLD

Project Bliss

I love the family that ordered this piece. Not only because they could open a gallery with all the Kirby Inks they have, but because of the passion that they live their life with. This piece captures the fun time that they took off from their careers to spend with their son. How cool is that?!

SOLD

Peacock

I love birds. I had seen a peacock at a wedding reception in Texas and had to get one out on paper.

Lighthouse

Sometimes I just don’t know how some pieces come to life. A lot come to me in a dream. I never said they had to make sense!
